| Description: Many sites now use auto-playing midi files - music that starts playing automatically when you go to the page. This can be annoying if you prefer quiet, or don't like the tune. This bookmarklet will stop the music. Here's a test page which has an embedded midi file. Note: This only stops embedded music playing through Netscape's Live Audio plugin: it won't stop music that is playing some other way (i.e. - through RealAudio, Quicktime, or Shockwave). |

| Bookmarklet: IP Address | Works on Frames? - Yes | |
| Description: Tells you your current IP address. This is the number that is assigned to your computer when you surf the web. The number is used to locate the place where the information you request should be returned. Some kinds of internet software require that you know this address. Java must be enabled for this to work. |

| Description: Cookies are small pieces of information stored in a "cookie file" on your machine. A site can set a cookie in order to recover persistent relations that may build up with a visitor over time (such as your preferences about the site). Select this bookmarklet while visiting a site to read any cookie that the site may have set (usually this isn't very meaningful, but what the heck). We have not set a cookie, but for purposes of testing we will set one if you click: |

Works on Frames? - Yes | |
| Description: These allow you to leave a short comment in your cookie file for a site you visit. The comments should persist throughout the site and even over time. An ideal use: leave a reminder at the site about something you want to look at later. To use them, choose "Record Comment" while visiting a site. Anytime in the site, use "Read Comment" to read your comment. There is a limited amount of room in your cookie file: choose reasonable expiration dates and use these comments sparingly! Tip: To delete a comment, make a new comment which expires in 0 days (it should disappear within minutes). Note: Cookie file data is shared between you and the site (and no one else); it is possible in principle for the site to read or change your comment. |

Bookmarklet: AutoFill Anonymous | Works on Frames? - No | |
| Description: This fills every text box in every form on the page with the word "anonymous". It also tries to fill in email boxes with "anonymous@example.com" (example.com has been reserved as a nonexistent domain) - but sometimes it will fail to detect an email box. This page doesn't have a form, so we have set up a test page. |

| Description: This is a "meta-bookmarklet"; it's a bookmarklet that makes other bookmarklets! The idea behind this one is that you may have many email addresses in your address book, but send most of your messages to only a few people. You can make it easier to write mail to them by putting a specially-tailored bookmarklet for each person in your bookmarks menu (or, on Windows, in your personal toolbar). This meta-bookmarklet creates these "Mail to..." bookmarklets. To use it, select it and give it an email address and name. It will create a "Mail to..." link which you can drag into your bookmarks. Select this newly created bookmark any time you want to write to that person. You can also, of course, keep the meta-bookmarklet (for repeated or offline use). |

| Description: This is a "meta-bookmarklet", similar to the one above. This makes it easier to access a frequently used mail folder; it creates a bookmarklet which will open the given mail folder. To use it, select it and then give it the name of one of your mail folders (e.g. - Trash). It will create a link which you can drag into your bookmarks. |

| Description: ROT13 is a simple "secret code" used sometimes in newsgroups to hide spoilers (movie endings, etc.) Give this bookmarklet a short phrase and it will encode it into ROT13. Give the bookmarklet an encoded ROT13 message to have it decoded. For example, copy and paste the following into the bookmarklet: Uryyb, ubj ner lbh? |

Works on Frames? - No | |
| Description: A silly bookmarklet with a heart. Makes a red heart dance around on top of whichever page you are viewing. The dancing heart requires that you have the Symbol font on your machine (standard for Windows and Macintosh). For those that don't have the Symbol font installed there is also a second ASCII version, which doesn't dance. Note: Reload the page to remove the heart. |
